How to Choose The Right Gantry Crane

The gantry crane has different choices according to the working environment, working frequency, the type and weight of the material being lifted. When choosing a gantry crane, you need to consider the following points:

1. Single girder or double girder?

In general, when the lifting weight is below 50t, the span is within 35m, and there is no special use requirement, a single girder gantry crane should be selected. If the width of the gantry legs is required to be large, the working speed is high, or heavy and long items are often lifted, then the double girder gantry crane is a greater choice.

2. Determine the span and cantilever length

Span is an important factor that affects the quality of the crane itself. Under the premise of satisfying the conditions of using the equipment and meeting the standards of the span, the span should be minimized.

3. Determine the distance between cranes

There should be a certain space between the external dimensions of the gantry crane, the cargo, and the transportation vehicle passages in the storage yard to facilitate loading and unloading operations.

4. Principles for determining wheel track

  • It can meet the stability requirements of the gantry along the track direction.
  • The external dimensions of the goods should be able to pass through the outrigger plane steel frame smoothly.
  • Make the wheelbase B proportional to the span S. Generally take the wheelbase B = (1/4-1/6) S.

5. Determine the lifting device
The most commonly used lifting device is hook. Others include grab bucket, electromagnetic chuck, carrier-beam, etc. The selection of the lifting device is determined by the type of load or material to be lifted.
