Gantry cranes can be adapted to both indoor and outdoor applications, with the characteristics of high site utilization, large operating range, wide adaptability and strong versatility. They can be classified according to the structure of the gantry frame, the form of the main beam, the structure of the main beam, and the use.
Gantry frame structure
According to the gantry frame structure, it can be divided into full gantry crane, semi gantry crane and cantilever gantry crane:
Full gantry crane: the metal structure is like a door-shaped frame, and two support legs are installed under the main beam to run directly on the ground track.
Semi-gantry crane: it has one support leg on one side, with the other side running on elevated runway beam. The outriggers have a height difference, which can be determined according to the facility conditions.
Cantilever gantry crane: the main beam can be outreached to one or both ends to form a cantilever, which can facilitate the loading and unloading at the cantilever end.
Form of the main beam
According to the form of the main beam, it can be divided into single beam and double beam.
Single beam gantry crane
The single girder crane has a simple structure, low cost, and is very convenient to manufacture and install. The main beam is mostly a deviating box structure. This form can be used when the lifting capacity is less than 50 tons and the span less than 35m.
Double beam gantry crane
The double girder crane has strong bearing capacity, large span, good overall stability and high efficiency, but its weight is larger than a single girder gantry crane with the same lifting capacity, thus the cost is higher.
Structure of the main beam
The steel plate is welded into a box structure, which has the characteristics of high safety and high rigidity. Box structure is generally used for large tonnage gantry cranes.
This structural form is made by welding angle steel or I-shaped steel, which has the advantages of low cost, light weight and good wind resistance. However, due to the many welding points and the defects of the truss itself, the truss beam also has the disadvantages of large deflection, small stiffness, relatively low reliability, and frequent inspection of welding points. Truss gantry crane is suitable for outdoor workplaces with low safety requirements and small lifting weight.
According to the application of gantry cranes, there are different types for you to choose from:
Ordinary gantry crane
This type of gantry crane can adopt box type and truss type structure, and has a wide range of applications. It can lift and move all kinds of objects and bulk materials, with capacity up to 200 tons. The gantry crane can be equipped with hook, grab, electromagnetic chuck or other devices to handle different types of materials.
Container gantry crane
It is commonly found in container terminals. After the trailer transports the containers to the yard, container gantry crane will stack containers, increasing the utilization of the yard space and speeding up the turnover of the yard.
Shipyard gantry crane
It is used to assemble the hull of the ship, generally equipped with two trolleys: one has two main hooks and runs on the track of the flange on the bridge; the other has a main hook and an auxiliary hook, running on the track of the lower flange of the bridge to flip and lift large hull sections.
